The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness

About Me

Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck in familiar patterns, struggling in your relationships, or carrying more than those around you realise. You may appear to be coping on the surface whilst privately feeling exhausted, disconnected, anxious, misunderstood or uncertain about how to move forward.

Whatever brings you here, therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, make sense of your experiences and explore a different way forward.

I am an experienced Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor working with adults and couples in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, both face-to-face and online. Over the past 30 years I have worked across mental health, counselling, learning disability and support services, bringing this breadth of experience into my therapeutic practice.

How I Work

My approach is grounded primarily in Humanistic and Existential psychotherapy. At its heart is the belief that people are not problems to be fixed, but individuals trying to navigate the often complex realities of being human.

I aim to provide a therapeutic space where experiences can be explored openly, honestly and without judgement. Together we can develop a deeper understanding of what is happening in your life, relationships and inner world, whilst identifying meaningful ways of moving forward.

While my work is fundamentally relational, I also draw upon a range of evidence-informed approaches where appropriate, including DBT-informed practice, trauma-informed approaches, psychoeducation and practical coping strategies. Therapy should be tailored to the person sitting in front of me rather than the other way around.

Existential philosophy has also had a significant influence on my work. Many of the people I see are not simply struggling with symptoms. They are wrestling with questions of identity, meaning, responsibility, uncertainty, loss, purpose, connection and how to live authentically within an often demanding world.

Areas of Practice

I work with adults and couples across a broad range of emotional, psychological and relationship difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Trauma and difficult life experiences

  • Stress, burnout and emotional overwhelm

  • Relationship difficulties and family issues

  • Grief and loss

  • Identity and self-esteem

  • Addiction and substance misuse

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • Work-related stress and professional pressure

  • Major life transitions and existential concerns

Alongside general psychotherapy practice, I have developed particular expertise in Autism, ADHD and neurodiverse relationships.

Many of the autistic and ADHD adults I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood, masking their difficulties, struggling within relationships, or trying to manage work, family life and everyday responsibilities whilst feeling internally overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted. Therapy can provide a space to better understand these experiences and develop ways of living that feel more sustainable and authentic.

Couples Therapy

A significant part of my work involves supporting couples and relationships.

Relationships can become caught in cycles of misunderstanding, conflict, emotional distance or recurring arguments that leave both partners feeling unheard and disconnected. Therapy offers an opportunity to better understand these patterns and develop more open, compassionate and effective ways of relating to one another.

I have particular expertise in working with neurodiverse couples where one or both partners are autistic or ADHD. These relationships often involve deep care and commitment alongside differences in communication, sensory experiences, emotional processing and ways of understanding the world.

My role is not to decide who is right or wrong. Instead, I help couples develop a deeper understanding of themselves, each other and the relationship they are trying to build together.

Clinical Supervision

Alongside therapy, I provide Clinical Supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and professionals working within helping professions.

My supervision style is reflective, relational and supportive, whilst also offering appropriate challenge, accountability and professional development. I draw heavily upon the Hawkins and Shohet Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision and seek to create a collaborative space where practitioners can reflect deeply on both their clients and themselves.

Working Together

Starting therapy can feel difficult, particularly if you are used to managing things alone or are uncertain about what you need from the process.

Whether you are seeking individual therapy, couples counselling or professional supervision, the first step is usually a brief introductory conversation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you here, ask any questions you may have, and consider whether the way I work feels like the right fit for you.

Sessions are available face-to-face from my practice at Ransom Wood Business Park in Mansfield, or online via Zoom.
